Coal auction: HC notice to government on GVK's plea

New Delhi, Feb 3 (IANS): The Delhi High Court Tuesday issued a notice to the central government on a plea filed by GVK Power Ltd challenging low compensation for the assets it deployed at a coal mine.

A division bench of Justice B.D Ahmed and Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva sought the government's response as it said the coal block auction being carried out for the particular mine will be subject to the outcome of the petition.

GVK had approached the high court Monday, challenging the coal ordinance as the compensation determined for their mining infrastructure deployed in Tokisud North coal block in Jharkhand was significantly lower than the costs incurred.

The blocks is one of the 23 mines that are being auctioned by the government.
