PM Modi faces possible poll defeat in Delhi: Opinion polls

New Delhi, Feb 3 (Reuters): Prime Minister Narendra Modi is facing his first state election defeat since taking charge last year, opinion polls show, a result that would dent his chances of consolidating power needed to speed up an economic recovery.

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has ordered scores of its top national and state leaders to campaign for this weekend's high-profile election to the Delhi assembly where a small anti-corruption party is threatening to stop its momentum.

But even the appointment of Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to oversee the campaign while he is writing this month's national budget may not be enough.

"This is the first time that we may see Modi's momentum stopped and that will be a shock," said Satish Misra, a political analyst at the Observer Research Foundation. "Despite putting every last drop of energy into this campaign, it looks like the BJP is heading for defeat."

Modi needs to win most of the state elections over the next four years to gain control of both houses of parliament to deliver on his promise of jobs and economic growth. The Rajya Sabha, where his party is in a minority, is frustrating his efforts to pass laws related to tax and foreign investment.

The BJP's campaign has been marked by infighting with party workers frustrated that Kiran Bedi, the first woman officer in the Indian Police Service, was appointed as the party's chief ministerial candidate - even though she wasn't a party member until three weeks ago.

India's most powerful Hindu group, the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh, which is also the ideological parent of the BJP, said on Tuesday the party was struggling in Delhi and criticised Bedi, saying she was unpopular.

The Aam Aadmi, an anti-corruption party, is on course to win between 36 and 41 of the 70 seats in the Delhi assembly, according to three opinion polls published this week.

The BJP is on course to win between 27 and 32 seats and the Congress party, which has dominated politics over the last century, will win between two and seven seats, its worst-ever performance in the city, the polls show.

The vote will take place on Feb. 7 and the results will be announced three days later.

BJP spokesman Sudhanshu Mittal dismissed reports that the party was getting nervous about a likely defeat.

"Who said we are in panic? We will deploy all the resources at our command. This is Delhi. Ministers and parliament members live here. Why should they not campaign?"

If Arvind Kejriwal wins the elections and becomes the CM of Delhi, then Arvind Kejriwal as usual will keep up to his promise because he is capable of saying and doing what he says. All over Delhi he promise 24 hours of uninterrupted power supply just the way common people desire, but it will certainly blow the fuse off,of the cheddi's freedom to promote their idiosyncrasy's.

Btw, Hat hill is where I dwell and Adieus Amigo is an old number by gentleman Jim. Also, the white house has clarified today that the intention of the so called parting shot by Obama wasn't what the Indian media made out to be. This, even though bit too late, should bring back cheers on the faces of the 'deadly duo' and millions of followers.

BJP winning around 25 seats is "Defeated" for the media and Scamgress winning 2-5 seats is a landslide victory of congress , that too in case those 2 seats were needed by AAP to form govt in case of Hung parliament.

There is really no answer why AAP is leading in all the polls in Delhi. Media is afraid of the present central government to show that BJP is not doing well but they also cannot report untruth. In fact during the Lok Sabha election main parties bought off the media houses- air time as well as newspapers. But in Delhi the heart of India AAP’s victory is nothing but victory of the good over evil. The issue of black money bringing back in 100 days and 15000 rupees in each poor man’s back account will hound BJP and Modi. To children and poor don’t ever show hope and then betray, it is equal to asking for curse.

Munni (KB) I told other day Delhi is not easy. I salute Sheila Dixit for 15 years of service. I was there for few years i thought same way like many corruption, but today i realized the developments in Delhi and the way it was handled by her cannot be done by others for many years. Delhi is a very sensitive place. Dil hai Delhi is true.

People of Delhi will regret for not retaining her. I choice is Makan for Delhi he knows Delhi better than Bedi or Keji. I think for hon., PM his expensive suit costed it all. Always talking about poor janata and a suit worth 10 lack rupees.

You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.

    Abraham Lincoln

The above quote sums up the pulse of the people in India. After a good start our PM Modi / BJP are not on Terra Firma - soon they will bite the dust. They let themselves be hijacked by the hard core RSS and the saffron brigade forgetting that we Indians irrespective of caste and creed are bonded by true Nationalism which does not mean being a HINDU. Further, thanks to the media even a common man is aware that massive funding by the big business house's particularly the Marwaris / Gujjus are now claiming their pound of flesh. Be aware if not for the intelligent Governor of the RBI our economy would get into a tail spin - recession is looming large. There are more important things for our nation than the BJP's hidden agenda. AAP's Delhi win will be a turning point - the common man is with the AAP .... give Mr. Kejriwal a chance and his eccentricity will bear fruit .. wait and watch ... Congress is history and can be written off = BJP may end up in the same fate .. time will tell ...

The Delhi election will be giving a precise scoring of the accomplishments of the fulfilled promises of Mr. Modi's deity personality. The political promises and visions offered to the electorate are too many to write.

He is gradually shifting the capital New Delhi to Gujarat and the people of New Delhi irrespective of their political affiliation must watch this devious political strategy.

Great accomplishments so far are Church attacks, especially the 5th in New Delhi and sowing the seeds of bewilderment in the hearts of the minorities in India, which they never have felt since India got independence.

If BJP is in power, simply watch the reverse gear format of India, shifting backward to the 16th century.

A few years older than Mr. Modi, read a lot of history down through the years, but totally confused to hear from the Prime Minister of the largest democracy in the world openly boasting that the electorate are afraid of him, so due to their fear will vote for BJP.

    Well, wait and see.

If, on the other hand, these allegations are false, he owes an apology to AAP and to the entire nation for lying and thereby defaming an honest politician.

AAP may reach to 45 seats because the way BJP panicking @ this juncture shows that BJP virtually concede defeat!?

If that happens to Modi, then the course of his undefeated 'game' come to an abrupt end.

    Political repercussion.
1)His political back biters with in has a say in party affairs hereafter..
2)oppn parties, especially Congress may have a sigh of relief holding Modi for a checkmate?
3)Future elections of states like Bihar weaken BJP's prospectus..
4)Modi waves finally brought to control by Kejriwall's one man army.
5)Kejriwall go down in Indian history as Concrete wall in Indian political history.
6)Janlokapal Bill will get momentum to be passed in Parliament.
7)BJP's veterans may raise from the ash to say that Modi your game is over....
8)Annappa will restart IAC once more and disgraced Kiran Modi may join once again.
9)A defeat in election in Delhi for BJP will go like this
    a)Win....Modi's wave
    b)Loss....Kiran Modi's incompetent leadership
10)a lesson...voters can be fooled once but second time voters will fool those once who fooled them..

Mr. Perinje: I wrote comments in many publications of India out of the profound mental wounds created by the BJP Government, and wrote without any fear that before the 25th December, 2015 certain political lessons of India will be exposed surprising the electorate of India. The BJP Government came into power surprising everybody strictly only on one foundation, the one man show, so history will be repeated.

The Church attack was the sponsored by the cunning congis and Aap to divert the attention of voters.

This time Congis have spent lots of money on media to promote AAP.. It is hard to know the mentality of voters. The media predictions is highly biased may not be true this time. No media predicted 283 seats for BJP in the Parliament election.
In fact Delhi state has more or less same number of voters as Mumbai corporation.
