Tight vigil in UP towns neighbouring poll-bound Delhi

Lucknow, Feb 3 (IANS): Special policing and extra vigil has been ordered on the Uttar Pradesh-Delhi border in the wake of Feb 7 Delhi state assembly polls, an official said Tuesday.

Orders have been issued by the Director General of Uttar Pradesh Police (DGP) office here to step up vigil and erect barriers to ensure that no unlawful activity takes place in the region neighbouring the national capital.

DGP A.K. Jain has also asked officials in Ghaziabad, Noida and Greater Noida to ensure that all vehicles passing through the National Capital Region (NCR) are to be frisked so that no illegal money, liquor, weapons or people cross over to the poll-bound city or into Uttar Pradesh (UP), an official said.

Barriers have been erected at many vantage points and police in Baghpat city have also been alerted. Income Tax teams and those of the Election Commission (EC) are also coordinating with law enforcement agencies on this matter, the official added.
