Law student's dismembered body found in Lucknow

Lucknow, Feb 3 (IANS): The 21-year-old woman whose body was chopped into pieces and found in the city was identified as a law student Tuesday, police said.

The woman had gone missing after she left her house for the Ambedkar law college Feb 1. The legs of the woman were found in the PGI area of the state capital Monday and the torso, hands and head, all cut apart were found in a plastic bag later.

Station House Officer (SHO) PGI Santosh Tiwari told IANS that passersby noticed the dismembered legs after which a police team searched the area and other body parts were also recovered.

The family said they were not aware of any reason that could have led to such a macabre end to their daughter's life, but investigating officials say the woman's phone records showed she was in touch with some boys just before her disappearance.

Her cell phone was subsequently found to be switched off.

"We are probing the matter with this specific lead and hope to crack the case soon," an official said.
