Three acquitted, two convicted in Jammu murders case


Jammu, Fe Feb 2 (IANS): A court Monday acquitted three main accused and convicted two others in the infamous Chopra family murders case.

Principal District and Sessions Judge (Jammu) R.K. Jain acquitted three accused, including Nagar Singh alias Nago, former Jammu and Kashmir legislator Trilochan Singh Wazir and his brother Ajaib Singh.

Two other accused in the case were found to be involved in the murder and the court will pronounce sentence against them Feb 5.

A local businessman, Rajinder Bhushan Chopra, his wife Madhu, daughter Saloni, their driver Jagan Nath and servant Sonu were found murdered Sep 18, 2006, at the residence of the Chopra family in Sector 3 of Trikuta Nagar residential area in Jammu city.

Police arrested all the accused following a public outcry in Jammu over the murders.

The prosecution charged the five accused with murdering the family, alleging business rivalry between the two families.
