Woman fires at police in Istanbul, escapes


Istanbul, Jan 30 (IANS): An unidentified woman opened fire at the police in Istanbul's central Taksim Square Friday. No casualties were reported.

According to a preliminary report, the shooter opened fire with an AK-47 rifle at a police vehicle in front of a security post.

After the shooting, she left the gun at the scene and escaped, Xinhua news agency reported. A suspicious packet was found in the square just after the incident.

Security forces are on high alert after the shooting. Police have cordoned off Taksim Square and launched a hunt for the suspect.
