Congress leaders rally behind Rahul after attack from Natarajan

New Delhi, Jan 30 (PTI): As former Union Minister Jayanthi Natarajan targeted Rahul Gandhi, Congress today rallied behind him, dismissing as "completely baseless" the allegations of his interference in the work of Environment Ministry and accused her of having "ulterior motives".

Jairam Ramesh, who was Natarajan's immediate predecessor in the Ministry, said her allegations against Gandhi were "not just completely unfair but also preposterously baseless."

In a statement here, he said, "As Natarajan's immediate predecessor for slightly over 25 months, I can say with all honesty that at no point of time did Rahul Gandhi ever tell me, directly or indirectly, what to do or what not to do in the discharge of my ministerial responsibilities."

Rubbishing the allegations, M Veerappa Moily, who succeeded Natarajan in the Ministry, said Rahul Gandhi had never interfered in the functioning of the ministry.

He said in Bengaluru that neither Rahul nor Sonia Gandhi had any clamour for power and that is why they remained out of government.

"Soniaji could have become the Prime Minister thrice... Rahul ji also could become the Prime Minister anytime," he said, adding both, however, chose to remain away from government.

Congress spokesman P C Chacko said Natarajan has made the "wild allegation" against the party Vice President with an "ulterior motive."

Seeking to puncture Natarajan's charges, he wondered why she did not raise the issue in the party fora for the past one year in spite of several opportunities.

"Not making use of any of the opportunities, if they make this wild allegation, the reason is obvious. It is some ulterior motive. Let them do that......Congress never stops anyone from resigning. So Jayanthi can also go Krishna Tirath way."

Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh said, "Neither Sonia Gandhi nor Rahul Gandhi have ever interfered in any government matter. If they wanted to do such thing, they would have become Minister or Prime Minister. All this talk is meaningless".

Taking a dig at Natarajan, he wondered how she has remembered all these things after such a long time.

The reactions of Congress leaders came after Natarajan claimed that as Environment Ministery, she had followed directions of Rahul Gandhi on green nod to projects but was "vilified, humiliated and sidelined" by central leadership.

"I have only followed the party line and rule book on all environment issues. To protect the forest rights of people and the rights of tribals in cases like Vedanata. There was no wrong doing on my part," she asserted at an hurriedly-called press conference in Chennai where she announced her decision to quit the party.

Virtually opening a can of worms, she accused Rahul Gandhi's office of planting stories to sully her reputation after she had resigned as Environment Minister in December 2013 on the direction of Sonia Gandhi.

Anybody behind Rahul or infront of him, damage is already done before the elections and will continue. There may be more to come in the days . I don't blame Rahul alone, but the whole set up of Congress. I did not fee the Congress party was serious enough in their preparations in the last Parliamentary elections to face a BJP with new leadership of Modi. Now I am afraid, the way it is going, they may be reduced to a party weaker than a regional party, unless some thing drastic takes place.

It is quite frustrating for any one to work under the leadership of a not so intelligent person.
Because every time a decision is taken by the party or an organisation, will not effect the whole party or an organisation but it also effects individually.
We cant blame Rahul for his low IQ level but should blame the mentality of nation who s such leaders based on who's son he is or whose grandson he is.

    People,

I don't like these Nakli Gandhi's and their politics... when they were ruling India thinking sun will never set on their empire...but this Jayanthi Natarajan is a scum bag...not worthy of defending...

I will give a small example...when Air India and Indian airlines were having monopoly over indian skies...she was Civil Aviation minister...she was thinking that she was running Air India because she is master and those flying in it are her slaves...one of her press conference she was talking with her characteristic style of expanding her nostrils as wide as her big mouth...she is doing this just because she is daughter of ex CM of Tamil Nadu....my foot...

She should think that those people who buy tickets and fly in Air India and Indian airlines are her real master...not other way around...

This is one of the main reason I hate these good for nothing CONgress scums...

This reminds me a saying "All bullies are cowards and no exceptions to this".....

The whole lot of congress crooks are now are on hook and again trying to shield the corrupt Rahul, Sonia and Vadras. They don't believe their own party workers who braved and came out due to frustration and dictator leadership of the congress dumb high command. Look at the qualification of Rahul and Sonia . They are fit for nothing . People of India can read all along and that's why they were shown the door. The mess and corruption of congress is at its best.

Rahul Gandhi is projected as a fool by Cheddis and they have succeeded in their efforts so far by winning elections. But the very basic thing people forget is that Rahul has never been in government and is yet to be judged. So the future is waiting for Rahul and Cheddis have no future.History will prove this plain truth.

The truth is Congress has no leadership and no intention of introspect and change according to modern time. If they dont change there party president and vice president this party is going to doom. Today people have no faith left for Sonia and Rahul. The Congress can bounce back only if they a non Gandhi leader for there party if not there will be BJP and other local parties and congress also be one among them.

(one time possible)her family is associated with Congress more than 40-50 years or so.Now Congress is not in power she want jump to another party obviously that is BJP.Irony is that she is not able to bring 1 MP from Congress in the election.

Now BJP is again making way to rejected and retired persons like
    Kiran Bedi,
    Jayantiakka
and there may be few in the Que.It is natural ambitious politicians are always has PLAN B.

Now Modi's definition MARGINAL UTILITY in force particularly in Delhi,AM want to import politicians from other party! The history of BJP shows like that .In Karnataka,Maha,Bihar,WB .....

Why drag BJP in to Congress' internal politics. Are you justifying George Bush's famous dialogue - "If you are not with us, you are against us"?
Ms. Jayanti Natarajan has given a full explanation why she is leaving. She was told not to go to media, she accepted it for over 1 year. She was not given opportunity to meet Sonia and Rahul to explain her situation.
And she is not a strategic asset for BJP. Most probably she will join hands with GK Wasan.

It is difficult to gauge which type of governance is good for political partiesinter-party chosen to lead or dynasty head?
BJP too had infighting, for many stalwarts like Advani, Gadkari like wanted to head But somehow they got a leadership in Modi.
In corporate world,L & T, is professionally managed, but other entities like Reliance, Tata's, Birla's are family owned corporates.
In dynasty, if chief is not able or dynamic then party will collapse. In party like BJP, if infighting errupts for leadership, then too party will collapse. Leadership crisis can affect to any type of party.

All these dongis who claim and believe 10 Janpath never interferes in govt,if they can read and understand English should read Sanjaya Baru's "Accidental Pm" in which he mentions how Sonia takes lessons out of MMS on some issues concerned to her interests or the interests of party's fund raisers. Mms needed one day to recover sometimes after Madam visits him thanks to his already weak heart. They themselves dint even have respect for his age and health and expected Modi to show it.

One year back when Modi used the word "Jayanthi tax" all the sadakchaap chaddiless dongis in this forum rallied behind jayanthi and Pappu and cried ve ve ve ve ve..

Modi was right and wrong. He was right about the Tax but wrong about the name. As jayanthi revealed it's Pappu tax, or who knows may be Vadra tax. As CBI smelt scamgress irregularities in this department also it's no surprise now the remaining bunch of congis will make Jayanthi scape goat now like they did to MMS in coal gate. Now jayanthi will be liability for scamgress so their rally is justified so is dongis disappearance un the forum.

The earlier rumour that she quietly met Amit Shah appears to be correct.Actually she is scared about the probe that why hundreds of environmental clearance files were kept pending.

Why BJP can not produce its own MPs/MLAs, why it is importing people from dongi Congress or from other dongi parties. All imported people are only interested in power not to serve the party or people. I hope the people will teach them by defeating them in the coming elections specially Kiran, she was good as a Police Officer and I do not think she can run politics as a IPS. If she does Kudos to her.
