Sensex down 153 points; metal stocks drop


Mumbai, Jan 29 (IANS): A benchmark index of Indian equities markets Thursday was trading at 152.64 points or 0.52 percent down as metal stocks dropped.

Good buying was observed in capital goods sector, while heavy selling pressure was seen in metal, banking and auto sectors.

The 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex) of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 29,516.49 points, was trading at 29,406.54 points (at 09.37 a.m.) in the early session, down 152.64 points or 0.52 percent from the previous day's close at 29,559.18 points.

The Sensex has touched a high of 29,526.33 points and a low of 29,378.30 points in the trade so far.

The S&P capital goods index gained 32.19 points; while metal index dropped by 133.86 points, bankex tanked by 133.79 points and auto index auto index fell by 88.70 points.

The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) also was trading 46.05 points or 0.52 percent down at 8,868.25 points.
