MiG 27 crashes in Rajasthan, pilot ejects safely

Jaipur, Jan 27 (IANS): A MiG 27 aircraft of the Indian Air Force Friday crashed in Rajasthan's Barmer district, but the pilot ejected safely, an official said.

Defence spokesperson Lt. Col. Manish Ojha said the aircraft crashed at 3.10 p.m. in a village in Barmer.

He said the plane had taken off from Jodhpur on a routine sortie to the Uttarlai air base in Barmer.

Police sources in Barmer told IANS here that the aircraft hit a motorcycle that led to injuries to the rider, who was admitted to a hospital. The motorcycle was badly burnt.

The defence spokesperson, however, said he had no information about this accident.

"A court of inquiry has been ordered to investigate the cause of the crash," he added.
