Russia forming 12th aid convoy for eastern Ukraine


Moscow, Jan 27 (IANS/TASS): Russia’s next relief aid convoy for embattled eastern Ukraine will deliver medicines, food and special deliveries for children in Donetsk and Lugansk regions, the ministry of emergency situations said Tuesday.

"The convoy will deliver everything necessary for the work of social institutions," Emergencies Minister Vladimir Puchkov told a meeting reviewing humanitarian work by Russia's unified emergency service.

A 12th convoy of 170 trucks will deliver more than 1,500 tonnes of cargo. Loaded trucks left Moscow region’s Noginsk rescue centre Tuesday bound for southern Russia's Rostov region, where the convoy is being formed.

"Trucks from Noginsk will be joined by vehicles from other Russian regions. The convoy's formation will be completed by January 31," the minister said.

Since mid-August 2014, 11 convoys have delivered more than 14,800 tonnes of relief supplies, mostly foodstuff, medicines, building materials and essential items for citizens affected by the conflict in eastern Ukraine between.
