Manali receives more snowfall


Shimla, Jan 27 (IANS): The picturesque tourist resort Manali and Shimla's upper areas like Kufri, Narkanda, Jubbal and Kotkhai experienced moderate spells of snowfall Tuesday, a weather official said.

The temperatures remained below freezing point at most places in the state with widespread snow and rain, an official of the meteorological office here told IANS.

However, it rained in the state capital Shimla, where the temperature was recorded at 1.7 degrees Celsius.

Keylong in Lahaul-Spiti district recorded a minimum temperature of minus 8.4 degrees Celsius, while the temperature was minus 6.2 degrees in Kalpa in Kinnaur district and minus 1.6 degrees in Manali.

Keylong, Kalpa and Manali towns received 1 cm, 13 cm and 4.5 cm snow, respectively, till Tuesday morning.

Dharamsala received 4.2 mm rainfall and the temperature recorded 4 degrees Celsius.

The Met department said western disturbance - a storm system originating from the Mediterranean-Caspian Sea region and moving across the Afghanistan-Pakistan region - would be active again in the region till Wednesday.
