Tripura scribe dies, donates body to medical research


Agartala, Jan 26 (IANS): Tripura journalist Surendra Paul died here Monday following severe cardiac arrest, family sources said. He was 58.

Paul, news editor of vernacular daily "Daily Desher Katha", died at the Gobinda Ballav Pant Medical College and Hospital here. He is survived by his wife and a daughter.

Later, Paul's body was brought in a big grief-stricken rally to the Agartala Press Club where many editors, journalists and other people paid their last respects.

Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, Information and Finance Minister Bhanulal Saha, "Daily Desher Katha" editor Gautam Das, and Agartala Press Club president Satyabrata Chakraborty were among those who paid their tributes.

As per his last wish, Paul's body was donated to the G.B. Pant medical college.
