Wipro bags multi-year deal from Irish bank

Bengaluru, Jan 26 (IANS): Indian IT bellwether Wipro Ltd. has won a multi-year strategic infrastructure management contract from Allied Irish Banks plc (AIB), a leading bank in Ireland.

"We have won a contract to build an agile and adaptive infrastructure for the Irish bank and improve predictability and cost effectiveness of its services," Wipro vice-president and global head for its banking and financial services Rajan Kohli said in a statement here Monday.

AIB offers a range of personal and corporate banking services in Ireland and Britain.

"As the deal also enables us to generate employment in Ireland, we will set up an operational and excellence centre in Dublin for locals," Wipro's global infrastructure services chief executive G.K. Prasanna said in the statement.

AIB chief operating officer Mike Brakes said the bank would look forward to transform into a digital bank with Wipro's supporting technology and application structure.

"The deal creates opportunities for our people in Ireland," Brakes said on the occasion.
