Three rhinos found dead in Bengal national park

Kolkata, Jan 25 (IANS): Three rhino deaths were reported in the past week in north-west Bengal's Jaldapara National Park, a forest official said Sunday.

The carcasses were found during an official count at Jaldapara park - the second largest habitat of one-horned rhinos in India after the Kaziranga National Park in Assam.

"While the rhinos that were found dead Jan 22 and 23 died due to natural causes, we are yet to ascertain the cause of death of the third one discovered Saturday. Poaching can't be ruled out, but so far it looks unlikely," state chief wildlife warden Ujjwal Bhattacharya said.
