Central government sends health team to Telangana


New Delhi, Jan 21 (IANS): The union health ministry is sending a high-level team to Telangana where five swine flu deaths have been reported.

The three-member team will review the situation and give necessary technical guidance to the state, an official release said here Wednesday.

Telangana has reported five deaths and about 50 new cases till Tuesday.

The central team will hold a meeting with the state health authorities Thursday covering availability of medicines and diagnostics, arrangements at hospitals, clustering of cases, sufficiency of lab facilities and preventive measures.

The team will submit a report on its return.

The team was formed after a review meeting here chaired by union Health Minister J.P. Nadda.

The minister assured all support to the state by way of logistics and medicines to supplement its efforts to manage the cases.

Nadda also spoke with Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and Health Minister T. Rajaiah on the incidence of H1N1 (swine) flu cases in the state.

The minister said the central government will keep a stock of medicines (Oseltamivir) for around 3,000 patients in addition to a stock of personal protective equipment to meet the sudden requirement of any state government.
