Hindu seer hacked in Allahabad


Allahabad, Jan 20 (IANS): A Hindu seer was Tuesday murdered at the Magh Mela here on the banks of Sangam, the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati, police said.

Identified as Rakteshwaranand, the middle-aged seer was found hacked to death by a sharp weapon, investigating officerss told IANS.

A complaint has been lodged against unidentified people and the police are probing the issue, an officer said while informing that the holy man was residing in Manav Utthan Samiti camp.

Agitated over the murder, many seers camping in the mela premises lodged a protest with the police, seeking more security in the area as millions of devotees were camping there for the 44-day religious fair.
