Unesco releases commemorative coins on 70th anniversary

Paris, Jan 19 (IANS): To celebrate its 70th anniversary, Unesco Monday released a new collection of commemorative coins which are themed on scenic sites such as the Great Barrier Reef (Australia), the Rocky Mountains (Canada) and Mount Fuji (Japan), among others.

Produced in both gold and silver, the collection reflects not only the natural beauty of each place, but the everlasting and universal value of each location as a Unesco World Heritage site.

According to a statement, UNESCO established the "Commemorative Coins and Medals Programme" in 2012 in partnership with the Swiss company Produits Artistiques Metaux Precieux.

The coins would be available from February onwards.
