Seven killed in Karachi violence

Islamabad, Jan 19 (IANS): At least seven people, including two government officials and two policemen, were shot dead in different incidents in Pakistan's port city of Karachi, media reported Monday.

Two officials of the Lyari Development Authority were killed when unidentified gunmen opened fire on a vehicle near the Urdu Science University in Karachi's Gulshan-e-Iqbal town Sunday, Geo TV reported Monday.

Five other people, including two policemen, also lost their lives in different parts of the city in the violence.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain strongly condemned the killings and demanded the federal government to impose martial law in Sindh as the provincial government had failed in maintaining peace in the city.
