New Delhi, Jan 17 (IANS): A 27-year-old Delhi Police constable was shot dead by three assailants near his home here, police said Saturday.

Constable Jeetendra Khatri was attacked by unidentified men near his home in Narela in west Delhi late Friday night. He received a gun shot wound in his chest.

Khatri was rushed to a nearby hospital from where the doctors shifted him to Fortis Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries Saturday morning.

Police suspect personal enmity behind the attack and have launched a hunt for the killers.

Sixteen Delhi Police personnel were killed in 2014 -- either murdered or run over. It is the highest number of police deaths in a year in a decade.
