Hyderabad engineer held for allegedly trying to join ISIS

Jan 16 (Agencies): The Telangana police on Friday arrested a Hyderabad-based engineer for having suspected links with Islamic State terror outfit.

Salman Moinuddin, 22, was about to take a flight to Dubai when he was stopped by security agencies and was later taken into custody, reported NDTV.

The report also claim that Salman Moinuddin has confessed to the police that he was going to join the Islamic State along with his British-national girlfriend Nicky Joseph. They had planned to meet in Dubai, Moinuddin and then travel to Syria via Turkey.

The police were reportedly tracking Moinuddin's activities on social media, which paved way for his arrest.

The latest incident has highlighted the new security challenge facing India. The officials have been grappling to deal with growing number of ISIS sympathies within the country.

Last year, Mehdi Masroor Biswas was arrested from Bengaluru by the police for running a most influential pro-Islamic State (IS) Twitter account.

    The present trend of joining highly qualified people to ISIS is a dangerous development, need to be restricted with iron hands.Otherwise our nation may go for a disaster.

    I do not understand why these are worried about Iraq and Syria. Our country has own problem like corruption. work to get rid of these things instead of trying to go there and kill humans.

    In my opinion the govt should arrange for a scheme and send all IS and Pak sympathizers to Syria and Pak, free of cost, provided they never return and strip them of their Indian citizenship. Special planes too should be provided for this purpose. Why keep people here when they themselves don't want to here ? These jehadis might launch a terror attack on our soil itself. Hence, the best thing would be to get rid of them.

    You can travel to Syria for business purposes (if there is any business still going on in Syria). But you cannot go there to become a terrorist.

    Read the story again carefully. They grew suspicious of his intentions due to his social media posts. And...most importantly, he admitted to the police that he was going there for not business purposes, but to join ISIS.

    @Abdul,
    Please tell me just what business can be done in a country like Syria which has been in a brutal civil war for the last 4 years. Millions of Syrians have fled from their homes and the economy itself has been destroyed. Other than the business of conducting a war there can be no business there. Very naive comment on your part.
