New Delhi, Jan 16 (IANS): A 42-year-old Manipuri man, member of an international drug racket, has been arrested for supplying heroin in several cities, including Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), police said Friday.

Ashiq Illhai, who used to supply heroin smuggled in from Myanmar, was arrested from Imphal in Manipur Thursday.

"We got a tip about Illhai from some drug peddlers arrested in November last year," said a police official.

Illhai used to supply drug to Javed Khan, arrested Nov 25 from Uttarakhand on a tip-off, and his associates Dharam Raj and Chander Shekhar, held Nov 24 from east Delhi's Trilok Puri with three kg of heroin.

Illhai, police said, along with Anish and Jalaluddin, both residents of Manipur, used to supply heroin to Khan and his associates.

"Illhai, Anish and Jalaluddin used to get consignments of smuggled heroin at the Indo-Myanmar border in Manipur and they sold these to Javed Khan and his associates for further delivery to Delhi and the National Capital Region," the official said.

The officials further said that Illhai has been indulging in supply of heroin for last 10 years.

"Anish is the kingpin of the narcotic syndicate."

"Raids were conducted to arrest Anish and Jalaluddin but they managed to give a slip to the police. Illhai is being taken to Delhi on a four-day transit remand," the official said.
