Six hurt in anti-Charlie Hebdo protest in Pakistan


Islamabad, Jan 16 (IANS): At least six people were injured when protests in Pakistan against the Charlie Hebdo caricatures Friday turned violent outside the French consulate in Karachi.

At least six people including an AFP photographer, cameraman of Capital TV and a policeman were injured during the clash, The News International reported.

Rangers were called in to control the situation at the consulate.

According to initial reports the police has detained several protesters.

Police used a water cannon and resorted to aerial firing to disperse the protesters who pelted them with stones.

Earlier, all the religious parties had called for a joint nationwide protest.
