Pakistan to hang another death row convict Saturday

Islamabad, Jan 16 (IANS): A Pakistani prisoner, who was awarded the death sentence by a court for killing a person from the Shia community in 2001, will be executed Saturday.

Ikramul Haq alias Lahori, was sentenced to death by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in 2004.

Lahori, who is locked up in Lahore's Kot Lakhpat prison, is a member of banned militant outfit Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, The News International reported.

Though he was to be executed Jan 8, 2015, the process was put on hold as a "compromise agreement" was reached between his and the victim's family.

However, an anti-terrorism court in Faisalabad, Jan 12, declared the "compromise agreement" null and void as it failed to meet certain legal requirements and re-issued the black warrant as the plaintiff did not reach the court to record his statement.
