Over 100 bodies found in canal in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow, Jan 14, IANS: Over 100 unclaimed and rotten bodies were found floating Tuesday in a canal in Unnao, 60 km from Uttar Pradesh capital Lucknow, according to news reports.

Officials, soon after the discovery of the bodies noticed by the locals, rushed to the Paeriyar Ghat where people go to consign mortal remains to flames. Police said these bodies were of people whose families did not have enough money to give them a decent cremation.

Inspector General of Police (Kanpur) Ashutosh Pandey said due to lack of money, the bodies were either dumped by families in the shallow waters of the Ganga or left buried under sand in the encastchment area.

These, he added, would float after being eaten up by river animals and fishes. Some bodies were half burnt and half eaten up, officials informed IANS.

Inspector General (Law and Order) A. Satish Ganesh informed that police were looking into all possible angles.

Saumya Agarwal, district magistrate of Unnao, has since ordered the cremation of all the bodies. Initially it was rumoured that the bodies were of victims those who were killed in Unnao's hooch tragedy Monday.

Laxmikant Bajpayi, BJP state president, also reached the scene after news of bodies being recovered reached to him.

He spoke to senior government officials and asked them not to use machines to lift the bodies, instead he advised to get autopsies conducted and give them a decent creamation Wednesday.

Lydia, you are a great chidea. I salute you for your thoughts. The Hindus are the one who dirty the Ganges. Let RSS & VHP pay for cleaning, why should we the tax payers bother.?

    KKR,

Why ? Does Kannada/Konkany fight pollute environment ? Commands Swachch Bharat Abhiyan ? Taxpayers money ?

Just because a community has linguistic disagreement, are you suggesting that citizens should bury their heads to a situation like dead human remains being dumped for canine consumption ?

Shame on such civilization, that can not give a decent funeral to the departed, in its own tradition!... I know poverty and all! but nothing stops you from doing just last service to the dead!... No matter, you give rice, laptop, chaddi baniyan and rest of the promises in election- but if this is the state of the dead - no matter what "swaccha bharat we speak up, it will never rbe achieved!" I hope wisdom prevails and Hindu organisations take note of this!- arrange for electric crematoriums if wood is not sufficient and atleast give electicity during funeral time! ... Om Shanti... let all the deceased rest in peace!

Ghar-Vaapasi ???? For what ? To be thrown into the river upon death ??

Where are the torch-bearers of Hindu religion ? Why ? Are they sure that the dead do not belong to Hindus or pilgrims visiting the temples in Uttar Pradesh ?

How are the funds granted for pilgrim centers used if they can't perform last rites of the pilgrims died at the pilgrim centers ? Is it used only for providing food to visiting worshipers ?

    Rita,

Why should I not be concerned ? Are you aware what a large sum is dedicated for Ganga purification ? In a way they pollute it and in another way tax payers boot the bill to clean it ?

Couldn't the amount be used to educate the poor, build houses for slum dwellers, support those who sell kidney to look after their children ?

    @ Suman

Oh ! You sound like 'who wants your tax ?' - don't you ?

Well, my tax may be pittance. Do you have the power of exempting me from paying tax or refusing my payment ? Granted - you may manage that. How many more next ? Do you know there is a huge population coming into my category i.e. Middle Class ? Do you have any idea how much tax the Middle Class are paying ? Do you think people will just pay and go on paying ? Nobody will question how their money is being spent ?

Do not underestimate the power of the majority madammmm.... Well, the majority here is not in the category of religion but numbers. Even many Hindus will oppose to looting them in a two-way policy as it is happening here !
