Modi wishes nation on Makar Sankranti, Pongal


New Delhi, Jan 14 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi Wednesday wished the nation on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, Uttarayan, Pongal, Bhogi and Magh Bihu, saying the festive spirit across India was "gladdening".

"I convey my heartfelt greetings to our fellow countrymen and women on the various festivals across the nation," he said in a statement.

"The festive spirit across India is gladdening. It celebrates the diversity of India that we cherish and are extremely proud of," he added.

"Wishing everyone on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti," he said.

"Greetings on Uttarayan. The sight of the skies full of colourful kites is a delight. Have a wonderful day with family and friends!" he said.

Modi also wished Pongal to friends in Tamil Nadu.

"Best wishes to our hardworking farmers for a great harvest. May it bring more prosperity in their lives," he said.

"My best wishes on Bhogi! May this special day bring happiness to all and usher in a brighter and better tomorrow, full of unprecedented joy," Modi added.

The prime minister also extended his greetings to the people of Assam on the occasion of Magh Bihu, saying "may this festival add to the spirit of happiness and well-being".
