No headway in murder of witness testifying against Asaram

Lucknow, Jan 12 (IANS): The Uttar Pradesh Police have failed to make any headway and apprehend the killers of Akhil Gupta, former driver and cook of Asaram Bapu.

Two bike-borne assailants had shot dead Gupta late Sunday in Nayi Mandi area in Muzaffarnagar.

Police said Gupta was earlier a close aide of both Asaram and his son Narain Sai and was testifying against them in a sexual offence case as a government witness. He had been living with his family in Muzaffarnagar for some time now.

In the report to the police, the family has alleged that Akhil often aired apprehensions that he would be killed.

Asaram is in jail since September 2013 in a sexual exploitation case.
