Kerry visits Sabarmati Ashram, Ford factory

Ahmedabad, Jan 12 (IANS): US Secretary of State John Kerry Monday visited the Sabarmati Ashram here that holds a special meaning to Indians and Americans alike.

Mahatma Gandhi established the ashram in June 1917.

A US embassy statement said Kerry discussed with entrepreneurs and activists the vital importance of women’s economic leadership in India as a key component to inclusive growth in the 21st century.

Kerry also toured a Ford automotive factory scheduled to open later this year, the statement said.

The factory represents a $1 billion US investment in India which will double the company’s manufacturing capacity within the country.
