Witness in Asaram Bapu's Surat rape case shot dead

Muzaffarnagar, Jan 11 (PTI): A witness in the Asaram Bapu's Surat rape case, 35-year-old Akhil Gupta, was shot dead by unidentified assailants on Jansath Road under New Mandi police station area here when he was returning home this evening.

Police said Gupta was shot at when he was on his way home and was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Gupta was cook and personal aide of self-styled Godman Asaram Bapu, who is in jail in connection with another case of sexual assault on a minor girl.

Two sisters in Surat have accused Asaram and his son Narayan Sai of raping them. Gupta was a witness in the case of rape against Asaram and had recorded his statement before a Gandhinagar court.

    I just wonder how come a witness of such a high profile case is allowed to move around without adequate police protection? Will UP police be able to nab the shooters? I doubt very much. This is the death of 2nd witness. 1st one was shot dead in Jan 2014! I hope some one will finish the main culprit himself soon.

    Asaram Bapu was initially supported by no less then Sushma Swaraj and BJP as such despite the rape charges and a very very dubious past!

    It was only later when media turned on the heat that she had to back track.

    Hence Involvement of Bhartiya Goonda Party or daku Shah in the murder cannot be ruled out!

    This was expected under Feku and Daaku rules.

    Feku escaped from eliminating all the evidences. Daaku escaped from Chaddi Bureau of investigation.

    Baapu also will escape by eliminating a human witness.

    I urge courts to grant special protection to the witnesses in High profile case!!.... that is the reason justice gets denied in many such cases, because, they either threaten the witness/get him eliminated!
