Himachal 'warm' but snowfall in the offing

Shimla, Jan 10 (IANS): Himachal Pradesh Saturday saw a further rise in temperatures due to prevailing dry weather conditions, but the Met Office has forecast possibility of rain and snowfall from Jan 13.

"There are chances of more rainfall and snowfall in the state from Jan 13 to 14," an official of the meteorological office here told IANS.

He said the western disturbances - storm systems originating from the Caspian Sea and moving across the Afghanistan-Pakistan region - would be active again in the region.

Most of the prominent tourist towns like Shimla, Narkanda, Kufri, Manali and Dalhousie might receive more snowfall, he added.

Shimla recorded a night temperature of six degrees Celsius Saturday, while it had dipped to 5.6 degrees Friday.

Minimum temperatures in Kalpa of Kinnaur district, Manali, Dalhousie, Chamba and Dharamsala were minus 3.4 degrees, minus 1.8 degrees, 8.3 degrees, 0.9 degree and 4.4 degrees Celsius respectively.

Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti district was the coldest place in the state with a low of minus 9.8 degrees.
