Sensex up 77 points; capital goods stocks gain


Mumbai, Jan 5 (IANS): A benchmark index of Indian equities markets Monday was trading 76.82 points or 0.28 percent as capital goods stocks gained.

Good buying was observed in capital goods and auto sectors, while selling pressure was seen in the oil and gas sector.

The 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex) of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 27,978.43 points was trading at 27,964.72 points (at 09.21 a.m.) in the early session, up 76.82 points or 0.28 percent from the previous day's close at 27,887.90 points.

The Sensex touched a high of 28,013.50 points and a low of 27,944.25 points in the trade so far.

The S&P capital goods index gained by 176.14 points and auto index moved up by 91.35 points; while the oil and gas sector went down by 4.65 points.

The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also trading 19.40 points or 0.23 percent up at 8,414.85 points.
