Mysore, Dec 10: The writers from across the State resolved to urge the government to extend Kannada as medium of instruction till eighth standard from the next academic year in accordance with the Champa and Baragur report.

They were taking part in the convention on 'Samanya Shikshanakkagi Mathrubhasha Madhyama', held under the auspices of Kannada Kriya Samithi, here on Saturday.

The marathon convention, which decided to meet the Chief Minister and the Minister for Primary and Secondary Education in this regard, also arrived at six other resolutions. 
 
The schools which have adopted NCERT syllabus should admit only children of those parents who are transferred from State to State. If they allow local students to enroll themselves, they ought to introduce Kannada as medium of instruction till either eighth or tenth standard. 

Textbook directorate

A textbook directorate has to be set up with a contingency fund of Rs 10 crore to enable it prepare text books to help extension of Kannada medium to professional and post-graduate courses in a phased manner.

The government should sanction grants to Kannada medium educational institutions, from baby sitting to tenth standard, without placing any condition on minimum intake of students. The urban development authorities must charge only 10 per cent of the market value while awarding sites to the schools which have totally adopted Kannada medium.

Apart from the provisions under the MLA and MLC Local Area Development funds, the government should provide grants for such schools to purchase government sites.

The Railway Department should revoke its order to remove regional languages in name boards at the stations in all the states except for Tamil Nadu.
