Moodbidri, Dec 8: "If the performance level in any sports events has to be at the top, then, coaches, technical staff and others must not only be encouraged but also should be given ample support," said district-in-charge minister B Nagaraj Shetty.

He was speaking after inaugurating the state-level "Ekalavya Sports Meet- 2006" at the Swaraj Grounds here on Thursday December 7 evening. The sports meet has jointly been organized by Department of Public Instructions, Pre-university and Vocational Education Board and Alva's Foundation.

MLA Abhaychandra Jain who was present on the occasion appealed the government to appoint physical trainers in the schools and colleges.  "The up and coming sports persons should be encouraged the very basic level.  The government should take care of their career so that they get proper training, good coaches and opportunities to showcase their talents," he added.

ZP president Mamata Gatti, PU Board commissioner S G Hegde, ZP CEO Kunjappa, Alva's Foundation founder president Dr Mohan Alva were also present on the occasion.


Dr Mohan Alva welcomed the gathering.
