Sonia Gandhi discharged from hospital

New Delhi, Dec 23 (IANS): Congress president Sonia Gandhi, admitted to a hospital here for an infection in her lower respiratory tract, was discharged Tuesday, a doctor said.

"Her condition is stable. She has been advised rest and to continue her medication," said D.S. Rana of the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital where Gandhi was admitted Dec 18.

The Congress chief was admitted under the care of Arup Kumar Basu, a senior consultant on respiratory medicine. He leads a team of doctors who are closely monitoring Gandhi.

According to doctors, the problem is quite common during winter.

There has been a lot of speculation about her health after her 2011 surgery in the US where she spent about five weeks and reportedly underwent a successful surgery at New York's Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

She was also treated for mild asthma for six days in 2008.
