BJP, Govt put onus on Oppn for anti-conversion law

Chennai/Hyderabad, Dec 21 (PTI): As a controversy over forced religious conversions by some Sangh Parivar outfits raged, the BJP and the Government today put the onus on the opposition parties for bringing an anti-conversion law for which they were ready.

BJP President Amit Shah said government is ready to bring an anti-conversion law and dared the "so-called secular" opposition parties to support it while Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu said the opposition did not respond positively to this offer.

The comments by Shah and Naidu came a day after RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat strongly defended the current controversial campaign of the Sangh Parivar and dared the opposition to support a law banning religious conversions.

Shah asserted that such incidents would not derail the BJP-led NDA Government from its development agenda.

"BJP has made its stand clear on conversions. And no one can derail the party (government) from its development agenda," he told a press conference in Chennai.
He was replying to a question whether the campaign by some fringe groups on the conversion issue would affect the development agenda of the Narendra Modi Government.

Asked repeatedly about the involvement of RSS in the matter, Shah evaded a direct reply and said, "RSS is a nationalist organisation and I have no doubt over this."

Opposition parties have been seeking to corner the government on the 'ghar wapsi' campaign in parts of North India and stalled proceedings in Rajya Sabha demanding a statement from Modi.

Shah, who is on a two-day visit to Chennai since yesterday, also said BJP's stand on forced conversions was clear and the government was ready to bring a law to ban them.

"BJP is clear about its stand on forced conversions. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu has said in Parliament that the government is ready to bring in a law against forced conversions. Are the so called secular parties ready to support it?" he asked.

Shah declined to comment on Bhagwat's remarks yesterday on trying to create a strong Hindu society.

Asked about Bhagwat's comments in favour of bringing in a law against religious conversion, Naidu said the government would not bring any law against conversion without a larger consensus on it.

"BJP had already announced that it would be right to bring a law against conversion as per the prevailing situation in the country.

"But, that is possible only when there is general consensus. Without consensus, the government would not bring any such law. An advice is given. Everybody has got the right to give advice. There is a right to write. You have the right to make commentary," he told reporters in Hyderabad.

"If you feel the state government's laws are not effective, there is need for an all-India law, the government has offered on the floor of Parliament, let's go for an all-India law. The opposition did not respond positively," he said.

Conversions have been happening in the country since pre-Independence era, he added.

Mr. pseudo-wise guy ... If the logic of hiking fuel prices when the price per barrel rises is applicable then fuel price reduction should ideally be in proportion with the of world oil prices providing a small cushion, but its surprising to see that this dimwit govt who has successfully completed a silver jubilee with U-turns doesn't seem to get the point.

That is a wise way of controlling inflation..albeit it may provide temporary relief and control inflation.

Its funny to see an idiots consult their economic wing of RSS shakha to write some gibberish.

NM.. sorry, butYou r the dumbest guy I have come across!... that is actually your MMS contribution! the dollar price in thise two time zone were not same... neither inflation, nor appreciation, GDP or any other economic terms...!

A bowler bowls at 100mph speed and it gets hit from bat and goes to a bowler at say 60kmph speed... Now if the fielder throws the same ball in same trajectory backwards in same speed, it would it the bat in same angle... Now do you think, the Ball should go back to Bowlers hands in 100Km ph..??!! basically, it is not possible!

when dollar prices soar to 60 per$ we all got good salary hike, now if it gets back to say 40 for $, we should ask for pay cut..? NO, because, inflation has risen to a level where even that 30% hike will not compensate..

crude price level may have gone down, but the storage/transport/refineries cost has still remained the same! it is like cloth price is gone down, but tailor still asks double the price!... it would take some time, to see effects..

and most importantly, even though fuel prices are delinked, you should keep some "contengency funds" to have cushion, when the oil prices will again start surging.? Get it? Your hatred for Modi is OK.. but dont goof up with how economy works dude!... your ideas are idealisitc!

if inflation goes back to say 2% and that very same level as in 2002, doesn't mean, you will get rice at 2002 price! ... if your aim is to get maximum LIKEs for your post, you may get it..! but truth will be kadwa.. :)

BJP is trying to divert people's attention from its failure...hence thsi drama!

In 2009 when the crude price was $ 60/Barrel then the petrol price in was around Rs. 42/Ltr. Today when the price is same $60/barrel then the price is 61.33/ltr.

Now tell me who is cheating/looting public - MMS or Modi?

In whose pocket is the difference of around Rs 20/Ltr is going - Adani, Ambani, Amit or Religion conversion program???

if the government goes ahead, reduces the price as per your logic, then there will be a swelling in CAD- current account deficit!

You're right that petrol and diesel is deregularized. What that means is that the oil companies are free to charge the market rate. However, the govts world over impose taxes on fuel, including the deregulated economies of US. This is to prevent overconsumption, raising resources for social spending, protecting environment, and absorb shocks of fluctuation. This smoothens the price rise or because govts will always have a handle on taxes. What used to happen during UPA's regulated pricing regime was that the govt was asking oil companies to bear loss, and not charge the market rate though it was fully levying taxes for itself. SO, the money never goes to your "imaginary pockets of Ambanis"!! specially, with the reserves, we will have to invest in alternate form of energy@!! OIL based energy is not here to stay long!! Hope you get the Point and stop trivilaising the gas pricing, hence forth!

Sir, I don't agree with using Dalit Christians at all. But, if I have used that wording, it is to explain the topic correctly. I have hugged the poor village people of West Bengal and the slum people of Delhi. Many things I see in the Christian world in India, I am not in agreement.

But, I do believe in the transforming power of the gospel of JESUS CHRIST, and HE IS LIVING TODAY.

Mahatma Gandhi was greatly influenced by the beatitude (Mathew chapter 5). He said, I love the person JESUS CHRIST. When he was practicing law at South Africa, went to attend a Church, the Priest and one member were very rude to him and told him that he is not allowed inside the Church. If he were treated with love, Mahatma Gandhiji would have been a Christian. Gandhiji's mentor was Rev. C. F. Andrews, who was the professor of philosophy at the St. Stephen's college in New Delhi. Some of the closest friends of Gandhiji were Christians like Dr. E. Stanly Jones.

Did I say, that he disliked any religion?

Please learn more about Gandhij's spiritual side.

In his prayer meetings, he read from many holy scriptures of different religions the most read was the Bible-Koran and Bhagavat Gita.

Among the religious songs he loved the most was " when I survey the wondrous cross" a very popular Christian song which he sang for the last time, and the next day while coming for the prayer meeting, his life was taken off.

I have read many biographies of Mahatma Gandhiji written by leading authors like Louis Fisher, E. Stanly Jones etc.

well, Hindus dont want conversion or reconversions! But they Want to STOP the mindless conversions happen, because of few bigots.. this is just a game played!so that there is focus on conversion... You know how media works? SWACCH BHARAT ABHIYAAN, they will take their camera everywhere there is dirt these days!! .... just to harm Modi..

similar way now they will take camera to every place, where there is forcible conversion.. and MASS HEALING and HARVESTING SOUL is going on!!

Why the Majority government of BJP asking opposition for 'Anti conversion law bill'?

If government serious for 'Development', let them pass the 'Communal violence bill' which is ready to be tabled and need no debate.

For good governance one need inclusive democracy.

If PM Modi is serious in his effort to complete revamp the system, kick all the communal from his ministry.

even in defense, we can get top same quality imports from russia, china as usa doesnt sell high end imports to other nations.

in return what we get from usa is not even 10% of what they take from us. usa and western nations need india and china too much for thier survuival and we also need them but not as much as they need us.

there is no talent as highly skilled and cheap work force when it comes to india in software technology and services in the whole world.thats why contracts goes to india.india is getting only $100 bln/year in software business saving $500 bln to usa.
now you can understand who is helping whom.the day they find them in other countries they move from india.in busuiness no is helping anyone as both parties look for profit only.

What i meant to say is first take care of those genuine home comers who were not converted & they are still Hindus. its just that they have returned to their homeland. Oh yea and its easy for Sanghi's to do a GHAR WAPASI to those Hindus who have converted to Christianity because missionaries already would have paid them money, built houses or got their kids educated & sanghis dont have to support them financially after doing a GHAR WAPASI.
Fact is BJP failed on the development agenda & trying to deviate the attention of the public by doing all this. Black money failed, dollar to rupee failed, forget coming down its going up, I dont know what is getting swach in the name of swach bharat, Achievement is U turns & foreign visits.

Christians have converted, Hindus have converted, Muslims have converted and so other religion people also!
We r born as human being n then v intake the faith of our religion.
People who have strong faith in their religion, die with same faith.
    And it includes christian's also.
India is a secular country , which means we can follow any religion.

Exactly, That what Naidu said, read the below in above news.

" Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu has said in Parliament that the government is ready to bring in a law against FORCED conversions. Are the so called secular parties ready to support it?" he asked.

So clearely he has used the word FORCED, then why this Kolaveri Di if you conversion is not Forced or by allurement as you claim ?? he never said the bill is against your so called "will full conversion without any benefits(only service)".

I think having a law as such is fine.
May be political parties are opposed to it out of fear that such a law will be misused by right wing groups just as right wing groups feel that without a law freedom of conversion is being misused.
Drafting a law in such a way so as to prevent its misuse is a tough one for the law experts to sort out.

A law should be drafted devoid of any loopholes. It should be fair for all faith and religion, truly secular in letter and spirit.
See what Karnataka govt. is doing. If they plan to interfere in one religion then they should have made it for all. You cannot have one rule for majority and another for minority.
This is the reason why CONgress is rightly accused of appeasement politics.

Amused to read comments those think "Anti conversion law" is a threat to their religion!... just google "Harvesting souls" and you will come up with pastors professing their faith in tons!!... and then you say, "be secular, Humanity is biggest religion, religions are man made, be inclusive-take along all religion" and lot of pearls of wisdom!!... Those forget, St.Xavier's atrocity, Islamic invaders atrocity, and still can't belive, How hinduism thrives in this land, for centuries, and why people haven't left the IDOL worship!!.. my friends, that is why it is a "way of life"... they are not bound with "do this , do that in this fashion" kind of doctrines!!... try your own way is what they say! there is no "IDAM ITTHAM".. !

Remember one thing from pages of history, those who criticised Islam, never invaded them.. the invaders like Bush, Cameron, Obama, praise ISLAM heavily on one hand!! and go and do massacre of poor people!! which is SAD!..

similar way, ISCKON, has no right to forcible try and sell their religion elsewhere! if required BAN them from such countires!... they are commercialicing Bhagwadgitha and have distorted so many things as HINDU and got a ban in RUSSIA!

Take this the Missionaries only do this for love and service and thereby seeing their selfless service 'Ones heart gets converted' - the conversion is from bad to good, evil to Godly ways.....I challenge if you name any one from your group even touched the lepers (for eg.)forget taking care of them. To do charity one needs Divine Grace. Listen your Darmastala spiritual leader said it is only Christians do it'. Listen once you are able to do it on Jesus way, I can convert to you. Remember- sins of omission is more dangerous than sins commission. Blaming is easy but doing with humility needs courage...

There is a hindi saying "Geedar ki jab maut aati hai, to woh sheher ki taraf bhagta hai"

When FEKU (now Maunendra Modi, who’s chest stretches to 56" during election campaign & who is fit only for election rally speeches) got clear mandate in Lok Sabha election this year, all were hoping, this will help him in taking some tough decision to bring Indian economy back on track & take steps in development plans without any hiccups. But, within 6 months he showed & proved, he is going to use people's clear mandate for wrong reasons & he will implement ‘Gujarat model’ (?) across the country, as promised during election rallies!!!
Same situation arose, when Vajapayee became PM. Sangh Parivaar outfits tried spreading their wings that time. But, it was Vajpayee’s strong leadership & firm decisions made their plans to fail. Vajapayee lost power because of FEKUs mis-governance in Gujarat & FEKU is definitely going to pay for silently supporting Sangh Parivaars & trying to convert India into second Talibaan.

How a person, who faled to follow 'Rajadharma' can celebrate ‘Good governance day’, who cannot control tongue of Sangh Parivaar’s chindi leaders?

When the untouchables were treated with love by the various missionary organizations like the Catholics-Moravians-London Missionary society-Church Missionary society-Salvation Army etc, those suppressed and oppressed people of the society embraced Christianity, how you can argue that as "forced conversion"? They did out of their own will. If some people use any trick and allurements simply to add the numbers to Christianity, I don't agree with that.

Sir, 2000 years back, one dozen very ordinary people, fishermen and tax-collectors simply obeyed the commission of JESUS CHRIST and went to three continents, Asia-Europe and Africa and preached the gospel-healed the sick thus Christianity was spread all over the world. St. Thomas who came to South India in the first century, what kind of forced conversion he did? He had nothing to give to anybody but only kindness-love and healing.

When Mao took control of China in 1948, 5 million Christians went underground, now there are more than 110 million Christians in China, and projected to be over 600 million by 2050 thus China as the largest Christian country in the world. Mao burned the Bibles but the Amity Bible Printing press in China is the largest Bible printing press in the world which was started in 1986, now printed over 100 million Bibles. How this can happen in an atheistic communist country?

Christianity will spread like wildfire under persecution.

So, any persecution of Christians in India will make them grow like wildfire.

When President Nixon Went to China, and gradually opened the door for the western world to start business with China, the Christian population was in underground. The Chines Government got the outlook, if religious persecution is going on in China, foreign countries won't come to China.

Well, since you have asked me an indirect question, I must answer that.

David Aikman was the bureau chief of the Time Magazine in Beijing for more than 20 years. He has interviewed many people like Boris Yelsin-Billy Graham-Manuel Noriega - Mother Teresa and many more.

After interviewing with many communist party leaders, they told him in one accord a secret.

Both the small Island nation Britain and the U.S. became world powers since their religion was Christianity so if China ever dreaming of becoming a world power, then China also must promote Christianity.

Please get a copy of the book
"JESUS IN BEIJING" by David Aikman.

Christianity has always thrived and multiplied under govt suppression or repression...the more the authorities suppress, the better for Christianity...history is proof of that...so it is good for Indian authorities to bring this anti-conversion bill, because it helps the Christian cause in the long-term.

Once can see the effects of this kind of different countries state suppression in todays world...See how many Muslim refugees in Australia. Germany and Canada are secretly converting to Christianity out of their own accord. Likewise, many second and third generation Indian Americans, who have embraced Christianity in USA, and going against their parents wishes of marrying only Hindu partners..Christianity will spread with govt suppression, or without the sword, no matter what.

When the minorities convert majority it is fair.
When the majority converts minority it is unfair.
What kind of logic is this???
Those who are strong in their faith they will never get converted again and again. Those who were converted for material benefits will keep on converting.
Strong anti conversion bill is mandatory today with the provision and procedure allowing those who really want to convert with their own will.
This is a good step towards better, peaceful and frictionless society.
Those who have the habit of blaming the government for everything will not spare any chance to blame the government.
Those who do not know much about the missionaries, I would like to inform them that a true missionary is assigned to spread the good news of GOD proclaimed by Jesus. That's it. That's what Mother Theresa did.
Rotten apples can be found everywhere who try to misuse and misinterpret and try to lure the people. They can be found in all the religion.
My suggestion for those who are in search of GOD to stay where ever you are, accept all as your brothers and sisters and read different religious scriptures and understand it. Scope for GOD is given in every religion even though religion is not only about GOD. Move one step above the religion and there you will find GOD. It is a beautiful experience.
GOD bless you all and Merry Christmas!

Why few members or organizations of these two communities always indulge in conversion business and justifying their action by saying its’ not forceful conversion. How do you define that forceful wording? When you know that you are hearting the sentimental feeling of majority when it comes to conversion issues, can’t they stop their conversion business? Are they worried about their next generation presuming that their percentage is dwindling? If so, then we have better option to contribute in other way around to increase their percentage for sure.

I repeat what I have said many times before. Corruption in any government can be reduced but a government with a Communal mind set is next-to-impossible to change.

    Nakul,
Without a doubt because the right to convert by an individual by his or her 'free will' is a basic, fundamental right.
Only religious fanatics will oppose this.

What is needed is only banning religious conversion by the use of force or allurement.

Know this, that propagation of the faith is a fundamental part of Christian duty. If conversion is a consequence of that then so be it. People should never be forced or allured into conversion. True Missionaries will offer 'services' irrespective of whether people convert or not. I personally know of such missionaries working in the various remote corners of India and the hardships they go through.

If there are foreign funded rogue groups whose only intention is to convert people they should be banned. If these foreign groups want to help the poor in India let them engage in social upliftment. If people are drawn to them by their proven social service then it is for people to decide about conversion. In such cases (in rural areas) it should be done through the courts in my opinion.

    Declan,
There you are. Now the point is clear. Since you agree that there are some groups (albeit small in number) which indulge in unfair means to convert such conversion should be banned.
that is exactly is my point. I am not against conversion of an individual. It is his fundamental right. There should be no scope for entry of a third party in this.
Why not support a law (don't call it anti-conversion law) to regulate conversions?

Wording should be "Anti Forced(Mass)Conversion Law".
The Agenda of RSS or their Political Party is to bring Anti Conversion Law which was introduced in 1977 by Thyagi, which was later dropped as protests intensified against draconian rules to target minorities in the guise of this Law.
Now that these elements are emboldened by huge mandate Modi government enjoys to bring this law by hook or crook.

Why should one stop their freedom? We should respect and encourage people's wish to become good citizens.

If they bring this law then it will not affect the minorities but even they need to be bound by that and they cannot do the so called GHAR VAPASI etc.

Secondly those people who were forced to convert for the sake marriage (referring to case of Anita, Rakesh etc) has to be punished and Arya Samaj should be banned.

Finally One can see the hidden agenda of the BJP and Sangi of creating the (Hindu Nation) slowly coming to light.

So attacking people while they worship GOD in their homes or Churches will be an attack on their personal freedom of worship and religion. Everybody has the right to preach and spread their religion in a democratic country, the same right of every political party to spread the political ideology. But, there should not have any force or violence in the propagation system.

    How China attracted foreign capital?

Even though China is a so called communist country, thus anti-GOD, but for the foreign investors, they saw their place of worship growing up all over China. If there is a national anti-conversion law enacted in India, that will be spreading through the media around the world and India will be pushed out from the status of a "secular" government. Anti-conversion law which is totally contrary to the principles of a democratic Government.

Please understand my comments in the proper context.

If you are offered a job in U.A.E and even for a higher salary in Saudi Arabia, I am sure that you will prefer U.A.E. due to her freedom of religion and personal liberty.

Likewise, if the image of India is projected as a theocracy, foreigners have some fear about their investment in India. Whether an individual or a business firm, they prefer freedom greatly.

Why less industries are landing in Kerala and West Bengal? The antiquated communist influence in those states have caused greater psychological barricade for the investors to start business there.

The statement made by one joker that by 2021, his party will convert the Hindus and Christians to Hinduism.

If the foreigners are reading that news, how they will comfortable?
