Odisha seeks Centre's nod for software parks

Bhubaneswar, Dec 21 (IANS): The Odisha government has sent a feasibility study report to the central government for setting up three software technology parks (STPI) in the state.

The proposed STPIs will be built in Jajpur, Angul and Sambalpur.

"The feasibility study report for setting up STPIs in Jajpur, Angul and Sambalpur has been sent for approval," said a letter by the information technology department to the STPI director general recently.

The government has, in fact, proposed to set up STPI facilities at six centres - Jajpur, Angul, Sambalpur, Koraput, Rayagada and Kalahandi - the letter said.

After the state government raised the demand for setting up more STPI facility centres in the state, the union ministry for communications and information technology gave an in-principle approval for it.

Currently, there are four STPI centres in the state at Bhubaneswar, Berhampur, Rourkela and Balasore.

Except for the Balasore unit, all the three centres are now operational. STPI centres are being set up in various parts of the country to encourage, promote and boost software exports.
