Mangalore, Dec 5: ICGS Savitribai Phule, an extra fast patrol vessel of the Indian Coast Guard f, touched the shore at New Mangalore Port on Monday December 4.

The vessel, fitted with high-tech navigation equipment was commissioned at Vasco-da-Gama, Goa, on October 28 under the control of Commander of Karnataka District headquarters of the Coast Guard. Donny Michael is the commandant of the vessel.

Addressing press persons here on Monday December 4, Manoj Baadelkar, Commandant Coastal Guard said that the vessel was patrolling under the directions of Union defence minister Shivraj Patil.

The vessel has been specially commissioned to patrol the coastal region as there were reports of ISI agents working in the guise of fishermen in the region.

ICGS Savitribai Phule is the fifth in the series of extra fast patrol vessels designed and built by Goa Shipyard Limited for Indian Coast Guard.
