Udupi, Dec 4: Reports from town police informed that some unknown miscreants have damaged Masjid-e-Noorul-Islam situated at Adiudupi near here on Sunday December 3 night.  Security has been beefed up in the vicinity following this incident.

The miscreants have damaged 7 glass windows of the mosque by pelting stones.  The electrical metre of the mosque too has been damaged owing to which power supply to the mosque is disrupted.  The usual Namaz (prayer hour) in the morning on Monday December 4 was not held owing to this incident.

It is said that the Imam who used to stay in the mosque had gone on holidays.  There were people in the mosque upto 8.30 pm after which they went home.  So the miscreants have reportedly damaged the mosque late in the night.  Some neighbours said that they did hear some noise from mosque in the small hours of Monday.

Police said that it is not yet found out as who is responsible behind this act.  But the general opinion is that some miscreants who wanted to stir communal feelings on the background of Mulki incidents might have dared to do so.

Police are investigating the case.
