Mangalore, Dec 4: The issue regarding the re-appointment of Malavoor gram panchayat clerk Bharati gained further momentum when the GP president Sadanand Rai resigned from his post as well as from membership.

He alleged in his resignation letter to zilla panchayat chief executive officer A M Kunjappa that the ZP was trying to curb the powers of GP by withholding the resolution to suspend Bharati for failure of duty and instead re-appointed her.

Over the past few days the Malvoor GP has been in the news regarding Bharati who was accused of misusing her post by taking unwarranted leave and even indulging in corruption. While one group demanded her re-appointment, another group wanted her to be sacked.

Rai also alleged that CEO was trying to safeguard GP secretaries Abubakker and Padmappa Poojary who, according to Rai, had failed to issue notices to Bharati and tried to cover it up by altering the attendance register to show that she was present when in fact she was on unauthorised leave.

The ZP has ten days to either accept or reject Rai's resignation.
