Mangalore, Nov 29: Notorious criminal "Hebbet Manja" of Shimoga was arrested in the city by Hiriyoor police on Monday November 27 night.  He was later produced before the Hiriyoor court on Tuesday November 28.

Hebbet Manja has been involved in several thefts, murders, robberies and other criminal offences.  Of late he had been accused of murder attempt on another notorious rowdy 'Korangu' alias Krishna while the latter was in police custody at Hiriyoor.  Korangu had been taken to a court in Bangalore for hearing and the police were returning to Chitradurga along with him when Hebbet Manja along with his accomplices had attacked him with pistol, sabres and sickles.

But Korangu had managed to survive despite sustaining serious injuries.  The Hiriyoor police were on a hunt to nab Manja eversince.  Accordingly they received a sure tip-off that he was hiding in the city.  Based on the information, the Hiriyoor police led by circle inspector Srinivas arrived in the city and nabbed Manja from his hideout.  The police have seized a pistol and several rounds of live bullets from him.
