Mangalore, Nov 27: State home minister M P Prakash announced at Moodbidri on Sunday that Mangalore would soon be granted the status of a police commissionerate.

He was speaking to mediapersons at the residence of former MLA Amaranath Shetty's residence while he was in town to attend the NUdisiri festival at the Alva's institutions.

He said setting up the commissionerate was not a big deal financially. A proposal had been sent to the department of finance which was awaiting approval. Electoral code of conduct too was one of the reasons for delay, in the backdrop of by-elections.

Asked about the recent riots in Mangalore which followed a bundh and if the Supreme Court order on imposing fines on organizations giving a call for bundhs would be implemented, Prakash said no decision in this regard had yet been taken by the state government.

But how soon?
