Kadamat, Lakshadweep, Nov 21: A 14-month-old girl was drowned when she was thrown out of her mother's arms as the boat in which they were travelling was rocked by rough seas near Kadamat Island on Tuesday.

Police said Neuna Shah, daughter of Mehulsha Shah from Mumbai, fell into the water on Tuesday morning and was drowned as her parents and two other relatives watched helplessly. Though Neuna was pulled out of the water immediately, she could not be saved, police said.

The family had reached Lakshadweep on the cruise liner Star Cruise from Goa.

The liner's passengers had to disembark into a boat and to be transported to the island. The sea near the reef is usually rough. There were 15 people in the boat, police said.

The girl's body is being brought to Kochi by helicopter.
