Udupi, Nov 19: Varija Kotian, wife of Somayya Kotian of JN Nagar, Yenagudde in Katapadi near here, was severely injured when off-season lightning hit their house on Saturday, November 18 night.
The sudden showers were also accompanied by lightning and thunder. The lightning hit the TV antenna and the current is said to have spread to the walls. The walls cracked and the electrical wiring, TV and DVD player were charred in the lightning attack. The the loss is estimated at Rs 50,000.
Upon being hit by lightning as Varija lay on the floor watching TV, her clothes caught fire, and she sustained severe burn injuries on her body. She was unconscious for ten minutes, said family sources.
She is now undering treatment in the hospital. Somayya Kotian also received some minor injuries.
