High voter turnout success of democracy: Omar

Srinagar, Nov 26 (IANS): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and working president of the National Conference (NC) Omar Abdullah Wednesday said the high voter turnout in the state assembly polls is a success of democracy.

He filed his nomination papers for the Sonawar assembly constituency in Srinagar district Wednesday. He was accompanied by senior party leaders and supporters.

"High turnout in voting yesterday (Tuesday) is success of democracy, but we should wait for all election phases (to get over)... we should not give it hype sitting in studios. People on the ground know how tough it is," he told media persons after filing his papers.

Omar Abdullah is contesting elections from two seats - from Beerwah constituency of Badgam district and Sonawar constituency of Srinagar district.

After having won the 2008 elections from his family's political bastion, Ganderbal constituency, Omar decided to dump that constituency for 2014 assembly elections.

Sonawar goes to polls in the fourth phase Dec 14, while Beerwah votes Dec 9 in the third phase.
