Mangalore, Nov 14: A workshop for tribal leaders ‘Information is Power : Information is our Right’, was organized by Janashikshana Trust and Zilla Adivasi Koraga Abhivrudhi Sangha, on Monday November 13 here.

Speaking on the occasion M Maheshwar Rao, deputy commissioner said that the district administration is dedicated to provide all the government facilities to the people of Koraga community, to make them independent.  Benefits can be obtained only when people have information about the schemes and training should be provided for them to utilize these resources, he added.

B Dayananda, district superintendent of police, said that there exists a need for the efficient progress of nearly 1,300 Koraga families in the district. 

Sheena Shetty and Krishna Moolya of Janashikshana Trust detailed on how the backward classes were directed in the education and developmental fields.

The participants were provided with an opportunity to put across their experiences and views.  

Also present was Prof Hilda Rayappan, director, Prajna Counselling Centre.
