Court proceedings against woman for false rape case

New Delhi, Nov 17 (IANS): A court here has ordered initiation of proceedings against a woman model for filing a false rape case.

Additional Sessions Judge Virender Bhat in a recent order said there was no truth in the woman's allegation of rape against her brother-in-law Rajeev Kumar.

Even her testimony does not inspire any confidence. Her deposition was neither credible nor trustworthy, the judge said in the order delivered Friday and which was released to the media Monday.

"Various facts have come out in her cross examination which suggest that she has cooked up a false and fabricated story of rape and that she is habitual of levelling false allegation of rape against people with whom she had developed intimate relations," the court said, while acquitting Rajeev Kumar.

However, due to the facts and circumstances of the case, the court said it would be failing in its duty if the woman was let off without punishment for giving false evidence.

"She is liable to be prosecuted for the offence of perjury," the court said.

The court said that during the trial, the woman had accepted that she had filed many rape complaints previously, including one against an aged NRI whom she wanted to marry.

She filed a rape complaint against Rajeev Kumar at the Bindapur police station here in February 2013.

The woman, a model by profession, alleged that her brother-in-law raped her at a hotel room in Jaipur in 2012 after intoxicating her, and later twice at her house.

During the trial, the man pleaded innocence and claimed he was falsely implicated by the woman.
