Home minister asks governments to celebrate 'Qaumi Ekta Week'

New Delhi, Nov 17 (IANS): Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh Monday asked the central and state governments to organise and celebrate "Qaumi Ekta Week" to spread the message of communal harmony and national integration among people.

"With a view to foster and reinforce the spirit of communal harmony...the Qaumi Ekta Week will be observed all over the country Nov 19-25, 2014," said a home ministry release.

It said that the occasion provides an opportunity to reaffirm age-old traditions and faith in the values of tolerance, co-existence and brotherhood in a multi-cultural and multi-religious society.

The National Foundation for Communal Harmony (NFCH), an autonomous organisation with the ministry of home affairs, also organises a communal harmony campaign coinciding with the "Qaumi Ekta Week" and observes the communal harmony Flag Day Nov 25.
