Cairo, Nov 17 (IANS): Egyptian Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab Monday said his government is acting to lay the foundation of a democratic, modern state, the state-run MENA news agency reported.
As Egypt braces for yet another vote next year, the government is assuring people that it is only they who will choose their representatives in parliament.
A transparent vote remained a priority for the government regardless of who would win the seats, Mahlab said at a meeting with representatives of the Independence Current, an Egyptian electoral alliance.
The representatives of the Independence Current said both the government and the politicians were keen to overcome the current transitional phase toward stability.
Egypt's security is above all the factors that should be taken into consideration, the representatives said.
