Kabul, Nov 17 (IANS): Taliban militants Monday launched a massive offensive involving some 400 fighters in Balablok district of Afghanistan's western Farah province, media reported.
The gun battle continued in the area, 695 km west of Afghanistan's capital Kabul, private television channel Tolo reported.
"Some 400 Taliban rebels attacked Balablok district at 5.30 a.m. today and fierce fighting continues," Xinhua quoted Farah's provincial police Chief Abdul Razaq Yaqubi as telling Tolo television.
Citing the police chief, Tolo also said that so far one police personnel and eight Taliban militants had been killed and six more militants and a police constable had sustained injuries.
Taliban militants are yet to make any comment.
