Ashok Leyland bags $79 mn worth export orders


Chennai, Nov 17 (IANS): Commercial vehicle major Ashok Leyland Ltd. Monday said it has bagged export orders totalling worth $79.2 million.

In a statement issued here, the company said it has bagged two large integrated transport projects in Tanzania and Zimbabwe, together worth $79.2 million.

"Besides the supply of trucks, buses, LCVs (light commercial vehicles), spares and allied support services (includes training and developmental consultancy), these projects will address a variety of mobility requirements in various tourism and economic development programmes," the statement added.

Exim Bank has financed these projects under its project export scheme.

"We have made a conscious effort to provide thrust to our international operations, and Africa is a very important part of this strategy. It is very encouraging to see our efforts bear fruit," Vinod K. Dasari, managing director was quoted as saying in the statement.
