Putin pleased with G20 summit

Brisbane, Nov 16 (IANS/TASS): Russian President Vladimir Putin said Sunday that he was pleased with the results of the G20 summit which he described as friendly and substantive.

"There had been attempts to build up tensions in the press (prior to the summit) but the true reality and the virtual reality of the media drifted very far apart,” Putin said.

Putin thanked Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott for creating a friendly atmosphere at the summit.

“Yes, our views can differ in some way but the discussions were substantive, creative and very useful,” he told a news conference on the results of the G20 summit.

Earlier, media reports said that the Russian president planned to leave the summit early after being criticised by Western powers about his country's role in Ukraine.
